Public Relations Intern

Cookies for Kids' Cancer, a national 501(c)3 non-profit, is committed to raising funds for research to develop new, improved & less toxic treatments for pediatric cancer, the #1 disease killer of children in the U.S. The organization raises money in a variety of ways including traditional grassroots events and peer-to-peer fundraising, corporate partnerships, gala events, and cookie sales that direct 100% of the profits to funding research.

The Public Relations Intern will play an integral role in creating a PR plan to complement the marketing strategy with a focus on media relations including creating press materials, developing local and national media lists, pitching media, curating a collection of key images for media to use, and working with the founder to identify other media coverage opportunities.


SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Researching and creating media lists
  • Creating an editorial calendar based on marketing plan objectives
  • Responding to external and internal requests for information and photos
  • Researching industry trends and best practices to spark creative PR ideas
  • Drafting basic public relations materials including fact sheets and media pitches
  • Documenting and monitoring media coverage
  • Coordinating press coverage with relevant Cookies staff member(s)
  • Reporting of media outreach and follow-up
  • cataloging media coverage and disseminating to key stakeholders
  • Writing occasional blog posts for the Cookies for Kids’ Cancer website
  • Other PR-related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Major in PR, marketing, communications or relevant experience in these areas
  • Excellent verbal communications and writing skills
  • Ability to work independently on projects
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize, and perform a variety of tasks, over the course of the workday
  • Resourceful – ability to figure out where to find information without much guidance
  • Highly self-motivated individual
  • Team player who has a desire to learn and contribute
  • Familiarity with Cision preferred

Compensation

This is an unpaid opportunity – however, we will offer a financial stipend to the intern. We anticipate that the intern will work an average of 10 hours per week.
