Half Marathon for Tough Cookie Kids 2019

I am training for the Mother's Day Half Marathon scheduled for May 12, 2019. I did this race last year for my last Mother's Day with my daughter Mira and I will do it again for my first one without her.

Mira was diagnosed with Leukemia at 22 months old in May 2015. She had multiple relapses and many side effects from treatment, but none of it did anything to her cheerful, loving personality. She loved to sing, dance and paint. She loved Disney Princesses. On the morning of February 11, 2019, she left us - her family - with wonderful memories to cherish for the rest of our lives.

Cookies for Kids' Cancer, a national 501(c)3 non-profit, is committed to raising funds for research to develop new, improved treatments for pediatric cancer, the #1 disease killer of children in the U.S.

As of October 2017, nearly $15 Million in grants have gone to support the research of our partner centers for new therapies and treatments for childhood cancers, the leading disease killer of children in the US. Since our inception in 2008, Cookies for Kids’ Cancer has funded 100 childhood cancer research grants, resulting in 37 promising new treatments in clinical trial, available to children TODAY.

Childhood cancer gets less than 4% of the federal budget for cancer research. Children's developing bodies need specialized, non toxic treatments that can kill cancer cells without causing life limiting and long lasting side effects. When children do survive cancer, 2 out of 3 times, they have to live with severe side effects including loss of cognitive abilities, loss of executive function, loss of limbs, and secondary cancers.
