Our Story

It all started with 96,000 cookies...

When 2-year-old Liam Witt was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in 2007, his parents Larry and Gretchen were shocked to learn of the lack of effective treatments for pediatric cancers due to lack of funding. They pledged to support the funding of research for safer, more effective treatments for children battling cancer. With the help of 250 volunteers, his mom Gretchen baked and sold 96,000 cookies, raising more than $400,000 for research. Word spread, and people nationwide began asking, "How can I help?"

Our Mission

Cookies for Kids' Cancer, a national 501(c)3 non-profit, is committed to raising funds for research to develop new, improved treatments for pediatric cancer, the #1 disease killer of children in the U.S. We provide inspiration and support for individuals, businesses and organizations to raise funds by hosting grassroots bake sales and other fundraising events. What makes Cookies unique? The three pillars of our value proposition:

Targeted Focus

At Cookies for Kids' Cancer, we have a laser sharp focus on how funds raised by supporters like YOU are put to work. Under the direction of our Medical Advisory Board, funds are granted to five of the nation's leading childhood cancer research centers to find less toxic, more effective treatments. A portion of funds also goes to the Children's Oncology Group's Phase 1 & Pilot Consortium to match, dollar for dollar, funds granted by the Federal Government for children enrolled in clinical trials.

Innovative Engagement

Everyone can Be a Good Cookie™. There is no right way to get involved. Host a bake sale. Run a race. Make a donation. Send cookies. Each day, supporters are finding new, creative ways to help raise funds. Since 2008, NINE treatments have been developed with the support of Good Cookies like YOU. A majority of this funding came from bake sales and other grassroots events! Learn more about the difference a Good Cookie can make.

Building Community

In an often disconnected world, Cookies for Kids' Cancer seeks to engage people from all walks of life in changing the face of childhood cancer, one Good Cookie at a time. Through this unified effort and focused goals, we are building a community of supporters worldwide, who in turn inspire their local communities in the Good Cookie spirit.

Be a Good Cookie™

There are many ways to Be a Good Cookie™. Hosting a fundraising event is just one idea. Order our cookies as gifts, shop our online gift shop, make a donation, create a fundraising page. Good Cookies host events of all shapes and sizes - from nickel wars and 5Ks to community-wide bake sales and school dances.

About the Founders

Gretchen and Larry Witt founded Cookies for Kids' Cancer in 2008. Their efforts have always been inspired by their son Liam's battle with stage IV cancer. Tragically, Liam came to the end of his courageous 4-year fight with cancer on January 24, 2011 at the age of 6. Though devastated by his loss, the Witts remain more determined than ever to continue the fight against pediatric cancer. Gretchen Witt accepts speaking engagements with 100% of her speaker's fees going directly to Cookies for Kids' Cancer.
