I am currently the head men's and women's soccer coach at Hough High School in Cornelius, NC. I got involved with Cookies for Kids’ Cancer because of my friendship with Amy and Jeff Christenbury and their son, Grier. Amy, Jeff and I went to high school and college together, attending West Charlotte and then UNC Wilmington. I took the job at Hough in 2010, and when the school year opened, our principal at the time, Dr. Terri Cockerham, encouraged our teams to get involved with our local communities. I decided we could do a Cookies for Kids’ Cancer soccer event, and we could raise money while doing what we loved — playing soccer! Our first event was held in September 2011, and we raised over $3500. We host area high schools for a soccer tournament, and while the competition heats up on the field, we have a huge bake sale! Heading into the 2014-15 school year, we have held six of these events to date — three each with our men's and women’s teams. We have big “goals” to continue expanding our efforts, and get even more teams and schools involved in this amazing charity.
