Growing up in a small town near Youngstown, Ohio, Samantha Benjamin became enamored with desserts at a young age and began creating her own unique sweets alongside her family in the kitchen. Baking alongside them for years helped ignite Sam’s passion for dessert and their family traditions of cooking and baking are the foundation that helped perfect her skills in the kitchen. She graduated top of her class from the Culinary School of Grandma and then received a masters from the Culinary School of her Mama.
Eventually, she graduated from Kent State University with degrees in both business and art, she moved to New York and soon started a career in finance at a hedge fund working in trading operations and stock trading. Soon after, she created THE DESSERTIST to keep her love of art and baking alive.
THE DESSERTIST has since then become a well-recognized name and has helped Sam become a notable Private Dessert Chef in NY and CT with a growing list of clients across the country.
Sam has had the privilege to work alongside some well-known chefs and celebrities over the years and along with her friends and family they have helped her realize that her place was in the kitchen and not behind a desk.
In 2013, she was named one of the “Most Successful in Business Under 30″ in Westchester County and has received positive coverage in multiple media outlets. Sam has recently been named one of 2014 Most Innovative Chefs of the Year and will be a featured chef at this year’s Greenwich Wine & Food Festival. She was a featured pastry chef at the Southern Westchester Food & Wine Festival and a Featured Chef for the 2014 Food Network NYC Wine & Food Festival. She also serves as a Key Ingredient Chef for KeyIngrediant.com where she is one of eight nationally recognized chefs for the company.
Sam is also an active writer and a recognized dessert expert. You can find her articles in her culinary column in Beauty News NYC magazine and countless recipes at Key Ingredient.com. When she is not in the kitchen inventing new desserts she dedicates her time to charity. She is a Chef Ambassador for Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, an NYC Baker for No Kid Hungry and will soon be a chef demonstrator and teacher with City Harvest and their Nutritional Education Program.
