Donald Robertson, or Drawbertson as he is better known, is a prolific illustrator and pop artist whose work spans both industries and media. Yet whether he is painting walnuts or Birkins, you can always spot a piece of his art. ? 

Robertson dropped out of art school shortly after failing his Life Drawing class—his professor flunked him for illustrating the models taller and thinner than they were, a technique that would later prove useful as he sketched portraits of fashion industry’s biggest players—thus ushering him into the club of enterprising college dropouts.  

?Robertson’s first major success was the launch of VivaGlam! for MAC Cosmetics in the 80s, an up-and-coming brand at the time, which raised millions for the fight against AIDS. His next move was to New York City, where he held the title of creative director at several top magazines including Glamour, Marie Claire, and Cosmopolitan. His exciting career in fashion ultimately drew the attention of Estée Lauder Companies, prompting the beginning of his career in the beauty industry. ? 

Although Robertson has been a longtime creative fixture, his social media presence is what propelled him, and his zeitgeist works, to international fame. Since starting his Instagram in 2012, Robertson has amassed nearly 200k followers and has been compared to the likes of Andy Warhol. Over the years, he has developed a high-end base of collectors, including the likes of Anna Wintour, Karl Lagerfeld, Beyoncé, Valentino, and Sarah Jessica Parker. Robertson thinks of his art as a melting pot of his daily influences: fashion, beauty, family, suburbia—plus it’s always censor-free and delivered with a sense of humor. ? 

Some of Robertson’s career highlights, to name a few, include both of his takeovers of the window display at NYC’s Bergdorf Goodman, the publication of Donald: The Book, by Assouline in 2017, his ready to wear collaborations with such fashion moguls as Giles Deacon and Jenna Lyons, his work with Bloomingdale’s in support of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, his Cadillac pop art installation at Miami Art Basel, plus a number of shows at the esteemed Parisian retailer, Colette. (2017 was also the year that Robertson succeeded in teaching his two equally stubborn four-year-olds how to ride a bike).  

Robertson is currently based in California and lives between Los Angeles and Montecito with his family. ?
